{"id":11939,"date":"2025-12-01T01:16:55","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T01:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dmklawyers.com\/?p=11939"},"modified":"2025-12-01T01:16:57","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T01:16:57","slug":"the-dominican-republic-is-positioning-itself-as-an-exporter-of-medical-equipment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dmklawyers.com\/en\/the-dominican-republic-is-positioning-itself-as-an-exporter-of-medical-equipment\/","title":{"rendered":"The Dominican Republic is positioning itself as an exporter of medical equipment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Dominican Republic is a global leader in the production and export of medical devices<\/strong>, with <strong>42 companies<\/strong>\u2014located mostly in free-trade zone parks\u2014exporting <strong>US$2.8 billion per year<\/strong>, representing <strong>22.2% of total exports<\/strong>, backed by an accumulated investment of <strong>US$1.94 billion<\/strong> and generating <strong>33,525 direct jobs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The information was provided yesterday by President Luis Abinader during the weekly briefing <em>LA Semanal<\/em> at the National Palace, focused on the theme <strong>\u201cMedical equipment manufactured in the DR and exported to the world.\u201d<\/strong> He also addressed the production of electronic devices in the country\u2019s 29 free-trade zone companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained that the country ranks <strong>7th among the world\u2019s top 10 medical device manufacturing companies<\/strong>, citing firms such as <strong>Medtronic, Cardinal Health, Baxter, Becton Dickinson, Fresenius Medical Care, B. Braun,<\/strong> and <strong>Medline<\/strong>, which operate manufacturing and export facilities in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main products manufactured include medical devices, transfusion equipment, blood pressure monitoring equipment, disposable surgical items, surgical sutures, ostomy bags, neurosurgical valves, biopsy needles, and respiratory-care products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Export destinations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>72.2%<\/strong> of these goods are exported to the <strong>United States<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>6.0%<\/strong> to <strong>Puerto Rico<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>5.0%<\/strong> to the <strong>Netherlands<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2.6%<\/strong> to <strong>China<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>He stated that the Dominican Republic is the <strong>third-largest exporter<\/strong> in the Caribbean and Central America of this type of product to the United States, behind only Mexico and Costa Rica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The country also produces and exports <strong>electrical and electronic equipment<\/strong>, manufactured in <strong>29 companies<\/strong> that exported <strong>US$1.164 billion in 2024<\/strong>, representing <strong>14% of free-trade zone exports<\/strong> and <strong>9% of national exports<\/strong>, generating <strong>10,416 direct<\/strong> and <strong>25,792 indirect jobs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most exported goods include switches, smartphones, electronic door locks, electrical connectors, transformers, sensors, alarm keypads, and electronic components. The main export markets are the <strong>United States (87%)<\/strong>, <strong>Puerto Rico (10.8%)<\/strong>, the <strong>United Arab Emirates (1.1%)<\/strong>, and the <strong>Netherlands and Hong Kong<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trip to the Unisted States<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Abinader announced that he will travel on Thursday to <strong>San Jos\u00e9, California<\/strong>, along with a group of business leaders, to participate in the <strong>Annual Semiconductor Meeting<\/strong>, to which the country was invited in recognition of its \u201cefforts and actions to build a solid and reliable ecosystem that positions it as a safe destination for investment in that subsector.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Haiti situation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the situation in neighboring Haiti, President Abinader stated that the <strong>border remains a national priority<\/strong> and that continuous monitoring is maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On reports of flights over the border area with Haiti, Defense Minister Carlos Antonio Fern\u00e1ndez Onofre said that aerial operations in the zone are normal and carried out by State security agencies to protect national
