Between January and March 2025, the energy and mining sectors<\/strong> jointly attracted US$516 million<\/strong> in foreign direct investment (FDI)<\/strong>, accounting for 39% of the total<\/strong> received during this period, which amounted to US$1,329.3 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Out of this total, US$341.5 million<\/strong> went to the energy sector<\/strong>, representing 25.69% of the national total<\/strong>, while US$174.9 million<\/strong> were directed to the mining sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This last figure was key to the mining sector<\/strong> achieving a year-on-year growth<\/strong> of 389.92%<\/strong>, positioning it as one of the most promising sectors for development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The sustained dynamism of these sectors confirms the confidence of international investors in the country’s strategic vision, which supports a responsible energy transition and a modern, sustainable mining industry,” said Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He noted that in the past three years, both sectors have attracted more than US$3.5 billion<\/strong> in foreign investment, including record annual inflows<\/strong> to the energy sector in 2023 (US$1.071 billion)<\/strong> and 2024 (US$1.14 billion)<\/strong>, making it the second-highest foreign capital attracting sector<\/strong>, behind only tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Strategic projects for energy expansion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Santos indicated that, driven by this investment, major projects are underway that will add 2,179 megawatts (MW)<\/strong> to the country’s installed thermal capacity<\/strong> between 2025 and 2028\u2014an increase of 54%<\/strong> during that period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He highlighted key developments for this year, including the launch of CESPM 4 (Energas)<\/strong> in San Pedro de Macor\u00eds<\/strong>, which will add 130 MW<\/strong>; the SIBA<\/strong> cycle closure in Boca Chica<\/strong>, adding 68 MW<\/strong>; and Manzanillo Power Land (Energ\u00eda 2000)<\/strong> in Manzanillo, Montecristi<\/strong>, expected to contribute 414 MW<\/strong> when it comes online by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ongoing renewable energy projects<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The minister also emphasized the country’s progress in renewable energy<\/strong>, with a growing and diversified portfolio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Currently, there are 33 projects in commercial operation<\/strong>, totaling 1,418.47 MW<\/strong>; 20 under construction<\/strong> that will add 1,006.25 MW<\/strong>; 22 at the start of construction (1,551.37 MW)<\/strong>; 26 in final permitting stages (1,712.48 MW)<\/strong>; and 25 with provisional concessions (1,280.37 MW)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the most significant projects set to inject power into the grid this year are the solar parks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “These developments are building a more resilient, sustainable, and diversified power system<\/strong>,” the minister concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Between January and March 2025, the energy and mining sectors jointly attracted US$516 million in foreign direct investment (FDI), accounting for 39% of the total received during this period, which amounted to US$1,329.3 million.
