{"id":11617,"date":"2025-07-14T23:48:48","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T23:48:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dmklawyers.com\/?p=11617"},"modified":"2025-07-14T23:48:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T23:48:50","slug":"energy-and-mining-attracted-39-of-foreign-investment-from-january-to-march-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dmklawyers.com\/en\/energy-and-mining-attracted-39-of-foreign-investment-from-january-to-march-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy and mining attracted 39% of foreign investment from January to March 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Energy and mining attracted over US$3.5 billion in foreign investment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Between January and March 2025, the&nbsp;<strong>energy and mining sectors<\/strong>&nbsp;jointly attracted&nbsp;<strong>US$516 million<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>foreign direct investment (FDI)<\/strong>, accounting for&nbsp;<strong>39% of the total<\/strong>&nbsp;received during this period, which amounted to&nbsp;<strong>US$1,329.3 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Out of this total,&nbsp;<strong>US$341.5 million<\/strong>&nbsp;went to the&nbsp;<strong>energy sector<\/strong>, representing&nbsp;<strong>25.69% of the national total<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>US$174.9 million<\/strong>&nbsp;were directed to the&nbsp;<strong>mining sector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This last figure was key to the&nbsp;<strong>mining sector<\/strong>&nbsp;achieving a&nbsp;<strong>year-on-year growth<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong>389.92%<\/strong>, positioning it as one of the most promising sectors for development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The sustained dynamism of these sectors confirms the confidence of international investors in the country&#8217;s strategic vision, which supports a responsible energy transition and a modern, sustainable mining industry,&#8221; said&nbsp;<strong>Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that in the past three years, both sectors have attracted more than&nbsp;<strong>US$3.5 billion<\/strong>&nbsp;in foreign investment, including&nbsp;<strong>record annual inflows<\/strong>&nbsp;to the energy sector in&nbsp;<strong>2023 (US$1.071 billion)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>2024 (US$1.14 billion)<\/strong>, making it the&nbsp;<strong>second-highest foreign capital attracting sector<\/strong>, behind only tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Strategic projects for energy expansion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Santos indicated that, driven by this investment, major projects are underway that will add&nbsp;<strong>2,179 megawatts (MW)<\/strong>&nbsp;to the country&#8217;s&nbsp;<strong>installed thermal capacity<\/strong>&nbsp;between 2025 and 2028\u2014an increase of&nbsp;<strong>54%<\/strong>&nbsp;during that period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He highlighted key developments for this year, including the launch of&nbsp;<strong>CESPM 4 (Energas)<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>San Pedro de Macor\u00eds<\/strong>, which will add&nbsp;<strong>130 MW<\/strong>; the&nbsp;<strong>SIBA<\/strong>&nbsp;cycle closure in&nbsp;<strong>Boca Chica<\/strong>, adding&nbsp;<strong>68 MW<\/strong>; and&nbsp;<strong>Manzanillo Power Land (Energ\u00eda 2000)<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Manzanillo, Montecristi<\/strong>, expected to contribute&nbsp;<strong>414 MW<\/strong>&nbsp;when it comes online by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ongoing renewable energy projects<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister also emphasized the country&#8217;s progress in&nbsp;<strong>renewable energy<\/strong>, with a&nbsp;<strong>growing and diversified portfolio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, there are&nbsp;<strong>33 projects in commercial operation<\/strong>, totaling&nbsp;<strong>1,418.47 MW<\/strong>;&nbsp;<strong>20 under construction<\/strong>&nbsp;that will add&nbsp;<strong>1,006.25 MW<\/strong>;&nbsp;<strong>22 at the start of construction (1,551.37 MW)<\/strong>;&nbsp;<strong>26 in final permitting stages (1,712.48 MW)<\/strong>; and&nbsp;<strong>25 with provisional concessions (1,280.37 MW)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the most significant projects set to inject power into the grid this year are the solar parks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mirasol<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Guerra<\/strong>\u00a0(100 MW)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cotoper\u00ed<\/strong>, in\u00a0<strong>La Romana<\/strong>\u00a0(146 MW)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sajoma<\/strong>, in\u00a0<strong>San Jos\u00e9 de las Matas<\/strong>\u00a0(76 MW)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Coastal<\/strong>, in\u00a0<strong>San Pedro de Macor\u00eds<\/strong>\u00a0(110 MW)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Payita I<\/strong>, in\u00a0<strong>Mar\u00eda Trinidad S\u00e1nchez<\/strong>\u00a0(50 MW)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;These developments are building a more&nbsp;<strong>resilient, sustainable, and diversified power system<\/strong>,&#8221;
