The Dominican Republic\u2019s free zones strengthened their importance in the country\u2019s foreign trade by contributing $780 million<\/strong> to total exports in March, equivalent to 65% of the month\u2019s exports<\/strong>, and marking a 13.3% year-over-year growth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the Minister of Industry, Trade, and MSMEs, V\u00edctor “Ito” Bison\u00f3<\/strong>, this performance reflects the results of a favorable investment climate and the joint efforts of the government, investors, and workers\u2014consolidating the sector as one of the main drivers of both exports and formal employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Q1 Export Performance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n During the first quarter of 2025, national exports reached $3.166 billion<\/strong>, an increase of $343 million<\/strong> compared to the same period in 2024, as highlighted in an official press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Export sales to Haiti<\/strong> experienced an impressive 45% year-over-year increase<\/strong>, while exports to the United States<\/strong>grew by 6.5%<\/strong>, surpassing $1.68 billion<\/strong> in the first three months of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In Haiti\u2019s case, the growth is particularly noteworthy. In February, it ranked as the country\u2019s second-largest export destination, with $83.8 million<\/strong>, reflecting a 30.3% increase<\/strong> compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The sustained growth of free zones<\/strong> continues to fuel the national economy and strengthen the Dominican Republic\u2019s position in global trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n February 2025<\/strong> marked the eleventh consecutive month<\/strong> of export growth, with total exports reaching $986.7 million<\/strong>. This represents a 1.4% year-over-year increase<\/strong> and an absolute variation of $13.3 million<\/strong> compared to February 2024, according to figures provided by ProDominicana<\/strong> (the Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center).<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2024, the National Free Zone Council<\/strong>, led by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and MSMEs (MICM), approved the establishment of 74 new companies<\/strong> in the free zones.
