{"id":11373,"date":"2025-04-13T17:53:07","date_gmt":"2025-04-13T17:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dmklawyers.com\/?p=11373"},"modified":"2025-04-13T17:53:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-13T17:53:09","slug":"free-zone-exports-registered-a-13-3-growth-in-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dmklawyers.com\/en\/free-zone-exports-registered-a-13-3-growth-in-march\/","title":{"rendered":"Free Zone Exports Registered a 13.3% Growth in March"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Dominican Republic\u2019s free zones strengthened their importance in the country\u2019s foreign trade by contributing&nbsp;<strong>$780 million<\/strong>&nbsp;to total exports in March, equivalent to&nbsp;<strong>65% of the month\u2019s exports<\/strong>, and marking a&nbsp;<strong>13.3% year-over-year growth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Minister of Industry, Trade, and MSMEs,&nbsp;<strong>V\u00edctor &#8220;Ito&#8221; Bison\u00f3<\/strong>, this performance reflects the results of a favorable investment climate and the joint efforts of the government, investors, and workers\u2014consolidating the sector as one of the main drivers of both exports and formal employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q1 Export Performance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the first quarter of 2025, national exports reached&nbsp;<strong>$3.166 billion<\/strong>, an increase of&nbsp;<strong>$343 million<\/strong>&nbsp;compared to the same period in 2024, as highlighted in an official press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Export Growth by Destination<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Export sales to&nbsp;<strong>Haiti<\/strong>&nbsp;experienced an impressive&nbsp;<strong>45% year-over-year increase<\/strong>, while exports to the&nbsp;<strong>United States<\/strong>grew by&nbsp;<strong>6.5%<\/strong>, surpassing&nbsp;<strong>$1.68 billion<\/strong>&nbsp;in the first three months of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Haiti\u2019s case, the growth is particularly noteworthy. In February, it ranked as the country\u2019s second-largest export destination, with&nbsp;<strong>$83.8 million<\/strong>, reflecting a&nbsp;<strong>30.3% increase<\/strong>&nbsp;compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>sustained growth of free zones<\/strong>&nbsp;continues to fuel the national economy and strengthen the Dominican Republic\u2019s position in global trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">February Growth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>February 2025<\/strong>&nbsp;marked the&nbsp;<strong>eleventh consecutive month<\/strong>&nbsp;of export growth, with total exports reaching&nbsp;<strong>$986.7 million<\/strong>. This represents a&nbsp;<strong>1.4% year-over-year increase<\/strong>&nbsp;and an absolute variation of&nbsp;<strong>$13.3 million<\/strong>&nbsp;compared to February 2024, according to figures provided by&nbsp;<strong>ProDominicana<\/strong>&nbsp;(the Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Free Zone Industrial Parks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, the&nbsp;<strong>National Free Zone Council<\/strong>, led by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and MSMEs (MICM), approved the establishment of&nbsp;<strong>74 new companies<\/strong>&nbsp;in the free zones.
