Japanese automotive company Yazaki will be investing more than US$ 100 million in the Dominican Republic in the construction of an assembly center for electronic components for vehicles and everything related to wiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to statements from Industry and Commerce Minister, V\u00edctor Bison\u00f3, the company will begin construction in the free zone in Santiago during the coming months and once set up the center will generate around 1,200 jobs, most of them for women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This is the largest company in the world, three out of five vehicles in the world, have Yazaki components and so we are announcing its installation in the Dominican Republic. This is a new window in terms of electronics within the Dominican free zones,” said Bison\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meeting with Abinader<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bison\u00f3’s statements were made at the National Palace after he accompanied the Japanese businessmen in a meeting with President Luis Abinader, which was held behind closed doors and lasted about 30 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The official stressed that these businessmen wanted to meet with the President face-to-face so as to guarantee the security of their economic investment and future results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The important thing about this type of investment is that it leads the way for other associated investments. I am sure that this new construction and this new investment modality in the free zone area will bring much more investment to the Dominican Republic,” Bison\u00f3 added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Prior to meeting with the President, Bison\u00f3 met with Martha Cabrera, Director of Government Relations of the Japanese company in Mexico, and advisor Joe Carrera, where they first broached the final investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A publication by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce states that “Yazaki is a prestigious automotive company that has been interested in setting up operations in the Dominican Republic. During the meeting, we discussed the benefits of our free zone tax regime and the opportunities that the country offers for foreign investment.
