Hasta el mes de mayo, la econom铆a dominicana ha mantenido un desempe帽o satisfactorio, superando las proyecciones del programa monetario,聽 al registrar una expansi贸n de 6.6% en enero-mayo con respecto al mismo per铆odo del a帽o anterior.

Este comportamiento es producto de una variaci贸n interanual de 6.4% durante el trimestre enero-marzo 2018 y de 7% en el per铆odo abril-mayo 2018, seg煤n un informe聽 sobre los resultados preliminares del crecimiento econ贸mico medido a trav茅s del Indicador Mensual de Actividad Econ贸mica (IMAE) correspondientes al mes de mayo y al per铆odo enero-mayo 2018.

Las actividades econ贸micas de mayor incidencia en el desempe帽o de enero-mayo fueron Construcci贸n (15.1%), Zonas Francas (10.6%), Comercio (8.5%); Salud (8.4%), Manufactura Local (7.0%), Energ铆a y Agua (6.9%), Transporte y Almacenamiento (6.7%), Comunicaciones (5.9%), Servicios Financieros (5.6%), Agropecuario (5.6%), Hoteles, Bares y Restaurantes (5.1%), entre otros.

Asimismo, el Banco Central informa que en los primeros cinco meses de 2018 las condiciones monetarias se han mantenido favorables, caracterizadas por bajas tasas de inter茅s y un cr茅dito privado din谩mico, como consecuencia de los efectos, que a煤n se mantienen, de las medidas expansivas implementadas a partir de agosto de 2017.

En ese tenor, la tasa de inter茅s activa promedio ponderado se ubic贸 en 12.49% en mayo de 2018, lo que representa una reducci贸n de 213 puntos b谩sicos respecto a mayo de 2017, mientras que la tasa de inter茅s pasiva promedio ponderado disminuy贸 en 108 puntos b谩sicos durante el mismo per铆odo.

El cr茅dito privado creci贸 13.6%
En este contexto de menores tasas de inter茅s, el cr茅dito privado ha acelerado su dinamismo, contribuyendo al crecimiento del consumo y la inversi贸n privada. Los pr茅stamos al sector privado en moneda nacional se incrementaron en RD$25,389.7 millones durante los primeros cinco meses del a帽o y en RD$96,978.6 millones de mayo 2017 a mayo 2018, equivalentes a un crecimiento interanual de 13.6%.

Durante los 煤ltimos 12 meses, los sectores productivos que impulsaron el crecimiento del cr茅dito privado en moneda nacional fueron Comercio (RD$20,291.8 millones), Industrias Manufactureras (RD$6,864.1 millones), Agricultura (RD$4,059.7 millones) y los destinados a la Adquisici贸n de viviendas (RD$18,366.6 millones) y Construcci贸n (RD$9,813.0 millones) que consolidados estos dos 煤ltimos totalizan RD$28,179.6 millones, representando el 29.1% del aumento en los pr茅stamos en moneda nacional en el referido per铆odo.

Up to the month of May, the Dominican economy maintained a satisfactory performance, surpassing monetary program forecasts by registering a 6.6% expansion from January to May compared to the same period last year.

This performance is the result of a 6.4% year-on-year variation during the January-March 2018 quarter and 7% in the period April-May 2018, according to a report on the preliminary results of economic growth measured through the Monthly Economic Activity Indicator (IMAE) for the month of May and the period January-May 2018.

The most influential economic activities in terms of the January-May performance were Construction (15.1%), Free Trade Zones (10.6%), Trade (8.5%); Health (8.4%), Local Manufacturing (7.0%), Energy and Water (6.9%), Transportation and Storage (6.7%), Communications (5.9%), Financial Services (5.6%), Farming (5.6%), Hotels, Bars and Restaurants (5.1%), among others.

Likewise, the Central Bank reports that in the first five months of 2018 the monetary conditions have remained favorable, characterized by low interest rates and a dynamic private credit, as a result of the ongoing effects of the expansionary measures implemented as of August 2017.

In this regard, the weighted average active interest rate stood at 12.49% in May 2018, meaning a reduction of 213 base points compared to May 2017, while the weighted average passive interest rate decreased by 108 base points during the same period.

Private credit grew 13.6%

In the context of lower interest rates, private credit has accelerated its dynamism, contributing to the growth in consumption and private investment. Loans to the private sector in national currency increased by RD$ 25,389.7 million during the first five months of the year and by RD$ 96,978.6 million from May 2017 to May 2018, equivalent to a year-on-year growth of 13.6%.

During the last 12 months, the productive sectors that boosted the growth of private credit in national currency were Commerce (RD$ 20,291.8 million), Manufacturing Industries (RD$ 6,864.1 million), Agriculture (RD$ 4,059.7 million) and those destined to the Acquisition of housing (RD $ 18,366.6 million) and Construction (RD$ 9,813.0 million), which when added amount to RD$ 28,179.6 million, meaning 29.1% of the increase in loans in national currency in the period in question.
